Ok, I know for a fact that there are hundreds of feature tickets in the QB Dev Team queue that customers have asked for, as active users of the system. I feel like the endless stream of restrictive, useless, and annoying updates, have probably never been on that list.Taking away simple things like Automations, ending the use of JavaScript in Rich Text fields, the dang "beta" report formatting that, if you accidentally click, is like herpes on your system, affecting every report you have... I mean REALLY????We never asked for this. We do not want more limitations. How can you not see that? Do you not use the system? We want MORE space, MORE features, MORE flexibility, or maybe just the features that we have been asking for.I urge other users to write below and add their comments to this thread. Maybe they will hear us. Because obviously having virtual Empowers has taken them away from hearing, from our own faces, what we really want and need.------------------------------QuickBase
Rich Text Field Change in AprilHello builders! Earlier this year we announced some upcoming changes to how Quickbase will handle unsupported code (like JavaScript) when it is placed outside of code pages. Read our recent blog post for more details on what is changing, why we need to make these changes, when changes will happen, and what you can do to prepare. The first of those changes will take place in April 2021. As of 04/23/2021, users will no longer be able to insert unsupported content (like JavaScript) into scalar Rich Text fields. This change DOES NOT affect Formula-rich text fields. This means that users will not be able to save changes to Rich Text field values that contain unsupported content like JavaScript or create and save new records with JavaScript in a Rich Text field. Instead, users will receive an error message warning the user about the unsupported content that exists in the field, and changes won’t be saved. Users WILL be able to save changes to other fields in th
Improvements to the Quickbase Formula Engine: Kicking it into High Gear As we embark on another 20 years of Quickbase magic, we plan on taking the best of what has made Quickbase special and investing to make it even better. I've made no secret of how cool I think Quickbase is. Our proprietary engine combines the traditional layers of database, application, security and interface all into one – leading to an exceptional time to value. In seconds, we often perform millions of calculations to deliver rich insights to our users. These calculations help them make operational decisions for their business in record time. We're hard at work on some major improvements to our formula engine, allowing you to perform computation on summarized data inside of a report formula, as well as enabling formulas which can access any field in an application without needing a relationship. Read on to learn more about how this can help accelerate your business in the new year. Formulas Thinking about how we

As discussed in the recent blog, Brian Cafferelli's Blog, the idea to remove the ability to create a pseudo summary report (using a table report as the baseline) could be a bit of a hassle for those of us who use these to be able to manipulate the field/column title, so the end user doesn't see 'Related...' as opposed to the terminology they're most familiar with. With this deprecation being slated to happen sometime in spring 2021, does this mean that we'll be able to override column titles for summary reports? If not, then it's forcing us into creating another set of fields with the names we want displayed, then use those in place of the original field names solely for reporting purposes...This just seems like a bit of unnecessary busy work to get our business column names available, since we've been able to use table reports to override the column titles as we've seen fit.Obviously, I do try to use summary reports whenever possible, but we've had several instances where it would have
Automatically book meetings on your Outlook calendar using Pipelines Do you ever find yourself manually booking meetings in Outlook, based on project work you’re tracking in Quickbase? Many companies track complex projects and milestones in Quickbase, and frequently transcribe dates, meeting attendees, etc. in Outlook by hand. But there is a better way! You can build pipelines which create these meetings for you automatically, saving time and making sure your meetings are booked consistently. This process will be of particular interest to those who use iCal fields, since that field type is being retired. Overview of example pipeline The pipeline to create an Outlook meeting based on Quickbase data has two steps: Step A: Trigger the pipeline when an activity record is added, but only if the activity type is “Meeting”. Step B: Create a corresponding meeting in Outlook. In this example, we’ll set up the pipeline to run when a new activity record of type “Meeting” is added. Howev
Table report features being retired: iCal and vCard fields, Summary Tables, New and Updated Flags, and the Report Format setting Our team has been hard at work building a new table report experience from the ground up, to give you a more modern and speedy way to get insights from your data. To streamline your report experience, we will retire the following features: iCal fields, vCard fields, summary tables, new and updated flags, and the report format setting. Background Over the next few years, we will be refreshing the entire user interface of the Quickbase platform. This will provide a more modern and consistent product experience, prepare us for future support of international characters and accessibility, and speed up our delivery of new features. The first step on this journey will be launching a brand-new table report experience. Because of the large scale of this project, it will be more important than ever for us to keep consistent focus on delivering the highes
Quickbase’s approach to retiring features Every day, we see citizen developers using Quickbase to make their business software work the way their people do. We want to make sure this exciting story continues decades into the future. One important element to make this a reality will be regularly retiring product features to streamline our platform. Read on for some context on this decision, and to learn about how we’ll approach feature retirement going forward. Why we retire product features on a regular basis Quickbase was created as a cloud platform back in 1999, long before “the cloud” was a phrase people commonly associated with software. Since then, we’ve helped thousands of companies thrive by helping them to flex and adapt to an ever-changing business environment. Today, we’re committed to fueling another twenty years or more of operational agility through access to real-time business insights and powerful integrations, all available on a secure, lightning fast, enterprise
Another 20 Years of Quickbase Magicby Andrew Varley, VP of Product Management - Quickbase In 1999, Quickbase created magic. Not fake magic but real magic. The type of magic that when you see it, you feel it. The first time you build true software and solve real problems, without code, is magic. The founders and early employees had a vision of creating access to new and advanced technologies for problem solvers everywhere. They released a born in the cloud, no-code platform, with Enterprise-grade security and governance controls, that gave business builders UI, reporting, dashboarding, access controls, APIs, and navigation. It immediately created a new way for people to solve complex problems with true applications and leapfrogged the status quo of spreadsheets and email. Over twenty years, Quickbase grew and fulfilled that vision for thousands of companies through millions of applications and an army of individuals who needed a better way to ke

Hey Quickbase Community! It's been far too long! Seems like Empower was a year ago and also just last week. Hopefully, over the past few months you've kept safe and continued to drive your businesses with great custom applications built on Quickbase. I've been lucky enough to connect with a few of you and am blown away by how you've used our platform to help your businesses adapt to all of the new challenges we're now facing. I've worked here since 2014 when I joined the Care team, and then spent the next four years on our Business Enablement team where I built and managed the Quickbase apps that helped run Quickbase. Now, I have the pleasure of working with a bunch of super smart folks updating the Quickbase UI. As a refresher, earlier this year we announced that we would be incrementally modernizing the Quickbase UI over the next few years. The goal in 2020 was to

Incident Overview Between 4:33 PM and 5:23 PM Eastern US Time (50 Minutes) on Tuesday, June 9, 2020, the Quick Base platform was unavailable due to an accidental deletion of the public SSL certificate issued on our behalf by our CDN and DDOS prevention service, Cloudflare. An SSL certificate (more accurately called a TLS certificate), is necessary for a website to have HTTPS encryption, thereby making the connection between our customers and the Quick Base platform secure. The accidental deletion of the public SSL certificate used by the Quick Base platform occurred during a configuration change process initiated by Cloudflare for which the Quick Base team was not given advance notice, and Cloudflare could not roll back the changes. Cloudflare did not intend for the configuration changes to be disruptive but, in hindsight and with further review, they acknowledge that they did not account for all the possible consequences that could result from the configuration changes. Cloudflare has

I heard a great analogy recently Quick Base is like a grocery store. While a grocery store might have 40,000 unique items, how many do you walk in looking for, let alone purchasing? The grocery store is responsible for serving a very wide customer base and balancing the needs of the many. Of course, you can also go to a specialty store which only has a few hundred items but is much more likely to serve a niche much deeper. As we promised in our Product Keynote at Empower2019, we are going to carefully be rolling out improvements to modernize our user interface. During this process, we plan on gathering feedback that spans 200,000 users, 6,000 accounts and over 100,000 applications. Spread amongst those is an infinite number of use cases that all require different features and have different priorities, just like all the customers in the grocery store. We want to be transparent about our journey, the process of gathering feedback, reconciling and assessing it, and ultimately share how
I spent some time this morning looking at how a variety of businesses are adapting their approach to continue to live their mission in this new reality. My son's elementary school is holding physical education class every morning online. Brené Brown is leading non-denominational prayer groups on Instagram. Veterans groups are posting daily workout challenges on social media to inspire physical and mental fitness during this stressful time. Fine dining restaurants are converting to touchless delivery literally overnight. Touching base with my team, I was inspired by the collaboration and partnership we've delivered to customers over the past week. State and local governments are spinning up apps to manage their response(s) to the COVID-19 crisis. Businesses are rapidly identifying business needs and developing applications to address them. Other clients have built apps to manage IT assets that need to be delivered to newly remote employees. The world is changing fast and w
