Intro

My name is Wes. I rebuilt my career on and previously worked at Quickbase but now work at Versar in IT. My scope of work is broader than Quickbase, but Quickbase work is still a highlight after nearly a decade. I particularly enjoy backend work for automation and extension of the platform beyond native capabilities.

Quickbase Beginnings
  1. How did you first discover Quickbase?
A VP saw a potential fit and set me loose to build and administer.

  2. What was the first thing you ever built in Quickbase?
Probably an Engineering Change or Marketing Collateral request form.

  3. When did you realize you were hooked on Quickbase?
    Empower 2019 in Miami!
Building and Impact
  1. What’s your favorite app aspect to build out in Quickbase?
Relationships; I love the work of optimizing app structure for a use case including drawing.

  2. What's a build or project you're most proud of?
Systematizing newly formalized company-wide requirements of an ISO certified QMS: forms, reports, workflows, automations, dashboards, and integrations (cloud and prem).

  3. If you were a Quickbase superhero, what would your special power be?
Perhaps Jinja in Pipelines or both back end (Pipelines) and front end (URL) use of JSON query.

  4. How has Quickbase changed the way your team/customers/employees work?
It has replaced paper and disparate recordkeeing, brought rigor to processes, improved metrics, ensured conforming outputs, and improved data quality.

  5. What’s one process you’ve automated that made life easier for your users?
RFID inventory tracking to check in/out items at fixed locations.

  6. Fill in the blanks: "Before Quickbase, we were ____. Now we’re ____."
Stumbling through the fog; charting courses for new horizons.
The Qrew Experience
  1. How did you discover the Qrew?
I was nominated as an inaugural Qrew Champion..

  2. What’s your favorite part of Qrew Meetups or the community?
    The constructive collaboration and communication.

  3. Why should others join or attend Qrew Meetups?
The Qrew are fun, friendly facilitators!

  4. If you could describe the Qrew in three words, what would they be?
    Curiosity, Creativity, and Community.
Beyond The Keyboard
  1. What do you like to do when you’re not building in Quickbase?
Smoking meat or music (various interests)

  2. What’s your go-to focus or creativity booster?
Taking a walk or practicing an etude on my Eb tuba.

  3. How do you like to unwind after a full day of Quickbasing?
Playing with my pups Yuki and Boots or washing dishes (really).

  4. How can people connect with you?
Email, Linked In, and Discord are good ways to start.
