Intro

Hi! I’m Mike Tamoush, the Quickbase Architect for SpecPro Environmental Services, part of the Bristol Bay Construction Holdings LLC Family of Companies. I have been using Quickbase since 2019 when we were awarded a large contract that had a requirement for a CMMS system. We stumbled across Quickbase, and I quickly volunteered to get it up and running. It quickly grew well past our original intentions, and I’ve been furiously growing the system ever since.

Quickbase Beginnings
  1. How did you first discover Quickbase?
We accidentally discovered Quickbase. After researching several possible database systems, my manager was at a meeting with our Teaming Partner, looked over their shoulders and said, ‘Hey what is that system you are using?’.  “This? Oh, this is called Quickbase.”

  2. What was the first thing you ever built in Quickbase?
The first thing I built was a table to track Service Orders. We simply wanted to keep our data organized with a secondary goal of creating a workflow.

  3. When did you realize you were hooked on Quickbase?
After one month of building Quickbase as a side project, I told my boss that I could really grow it and make it something useful if it became my full-time job. He said yes, and the rest is history.
Building and Impact
  1. What’s a build or project you’re most proud of?
One of the builds that I am both proud of and has made life easier for the users was one of my first builds (which of course has been refined over the years). We perform recurring maintenance on nearly 30,000 assets on military bases around the country. Quickbase allows dozens of field teams to scan QR codes with their tablet, pull up the asset and perform the necessary maintenance review. They have access to photos and instructions that assist in completing their task.

  2. If you were a QB superhero, what would your special power be?
If I was a QB superhero, I would love for my superpower to be to immediately create any code page needed. In reality, I am closer to ‘Captain Creative Workaround’ where I use Quickbase’s low code/no code abilities in creative ways to accomplish any goal imaginable.

  3. How has Quickbase changed the way your team/customers/employees work?
Quickbase has revolutionized the way our teams work. It eliminated a complex web of spreadsheets and emails. It put technology in the palm of our hands, with fields teams working on digital forms, replacing antiquated paper forms that would often be crudely scanned and emailed. It has spurred the creation of dozens of SOPs while improving efficiency and decreasing labor hours in the process!
The Qrew Experience
  1. How did you discover the Qrew?
I found the Qrew initially through the Community Forum, but connected much more through Discord.

  2. What’s your favorite part of Qrew Meetups or the community?
My favorite part of the Qrew has been getting to know people through Discord on a more personal level, and finding people that love QB and are excited to help each other through the process.

  3. Why should others join or attend Qrew Meetups?
Interacting with the Qrew allows you to learn so much about Quickbase, giving you access to ideas and resources that you would not have otherwise. Who knows, you may even make a friend or two along the way!

  4. If you could describe the Qrew in three words, what would they be?Helpful, Qreative, Quirky.
Beyond The Keyboard
  1. What do you like to do when you’re not building in Quickbase?
Most of my time outside of Quickbase is trail running, while sprinkling in any other outdoor activity I can find (SUP, xc skiing, camping, travelling). Any and all adventures!

  2. What’s your go-to focus or creativity booster?
When I need to boost my creativity, I usually turn off QB and go for a run. But inspiration usually hits when I am in bed staring at the ceiling, with my QB build circling through my mind.

  3. How do you like to unwind after a full day of Quickbasing?
After a full day of Quickbasing, I’ll grab a run, make some dinner, and read a book or grab a drink with friends. In the summer, I’ll get myself on or by the river!

  4. How can people connect with you?
People can find me in discord! Just look for Mike Tamoush.
