Formula help

Question

How can I make a text-formula field with conditions to return Text if another (Date) field is blank?
Here is what I tried and have error:

(IsNull [ETA Destination Port],"In-Transit"),
IsNull [ATA Destination Port],"At Port"),
IsNull [Port Pickup Date],"Picked-Up"),
IsNull [Empty Return Date],"Empty Returned")

It's a bit obscure and non intuitive, but IsNull is documented not to work for text field types.

try this

IF(
Trim([ETA Destination Port]) ="", "In-Transit"),
Trim([ATA Destination Port]) ="", "At Port"),
Trim([Port Pickup Date]) = "", "Picked-Up"),
Trim([Empty Return Date]) = ", "Empty Returned")
