QuickBase notification triggering unexpectedly?

Perhaps this is by design, but I think I might be confused.

I have a notification that is triggered when added or modified 'when the following fields change'. The only field selected is a checkbox.

Every time a record is added, it fires. Is a checkbox assumed to be changed as soon as a record is created?

It should not trigger as far as I know unless you have the default value for the checkbox to be checked.
