Unable to create summary field

Question

I've been getting the following error when I attempt to create a summary field in a relationship:

We are sorry -- at this time, you cannot use this formula and have a summary field using this relationship.

I have a relationship where the reference field is a fromula text field but I don't know what I am doing incorrectly. I have a similar relationship between the same parent table and a different child table where the reference field is also a formula text field but it allowed me to create the summary fields.------------------------------Niraj Shah------------------------------

When you have a relationship and the reference field on the right side is composed of a lookup field, you are not permitted to make a summary field. That has always been a Quick Base limitation going back to like 2000.

The only solution is to have a scalar (data entry) type field and have an Automation maintain to be the same as the lookup field.
