When you relate a field, the child table gets a related field which is a drop down selection to the associated parent. Is there a way to eliminate the dropdown list, so that the user would have to type in an exact match to associate? I am looking this option for an EOTI scenario

Hey Mike! There isn't a way to make the reference field a free form text field. But an alternative option would be to have a free form text field that the users (EOTI) populate, and on save fire an automation to drop that value into the reference field.

One solution is to have two relationships.
One is regular, with a drop down for internal users. But do not do ANY lookup fields.
Then have a direct data entry field.

Then have a formula field called [Related Parent (final)] that says if the regular drop down is not blank use it,  else use the direct entry field.

Then do a relation based on that [Related Parent (final)]

That way the form will properly populate the looks field once Directly entered even before saving.

The EOTI users would have a form rule to only show the Direct entry field.
