Question

Formula-text result not visible on form or in table

Original field type was "text" with form rules. As the rules became more complicated, I decided to convert the field type to formula-text.

I created a new field to test the formula and it worked all right. Then I copied the formula to the original field to replace the form rules.

But even with both fields active, my test field displays what it's supposed to while the original one is blank.

The formula works on both fields though, I was able to confirm this by setting up a trigger off the results. But the result is not visible in the forms or on the records table.

Do you have the label turned on or turned off?  Have you verified that the formula-text field is generating a result by displaying it in a report?  Can you create a new form with just that one field on it to verify it is displaying properly in a form layout?  Have you checked the usage to see what Rules the formula-text field is being referenced in; perhaps you have conflicting rules which are not being recognized as conflicting.
