how do I upload photographs to quickbase

No problem.

Just create a field of type file attachment. Then  in edit mode Browse to you file location. When you save your file attachment goes up to the cloud.

There is a particular field property for the treatment if jpg format files on records if you want to experiment on it's effect.

Consider the number if previous versions of the file you want to retain. You can save file attachment space by changing that from 3 to 1 versions saved. That's a field property setup.

Strongly recommend a separate table attached to your main table as a scalable way of managing File Attachments. If, for each "Project" (or main table record); you intend to have 3 File Attachments, but need more; you can simply add more records if they are stored in a child-table; rather than creating additional File Attachment fields. Users will only see the "latest" file attachment even if there are revisions in a single File Attachment Field.

If your camera is part of your phone or tablet, QuickBase makes it easy to upload the photos directly into QuickBase records. We recommend this approach for pictures that you want linked to information that people are entering into QuickBase.

Please explain how to upload jpegs directly from iPhone.

If you have a file attachment field on a record and you edit the record it will let the user browse to their "camera roll".  So first take the picture and then edit or add a record.

Uploading and storing large documents to Quick-base is expensive. But you can use Amazon s3 storage which is very cheap and integrate your quickbase app with amazon storage using this utility called awss3qb. You can download it from http://jakurian.wix.com/newelsoft#!services/c1pna. This utility can be used in command line mode or in batch mode.

These instructions are too technical. 'field of type file attachment'? 'up to the cloud'? from my computer?  to the db? 'number of previous versions'?  'field property setup'?  Sorry, this isn't my field of expertise, but I have to use it, and I need help.

If you are an Administrator of QuickBase, then you would be able to go into the Settings of the Table where you want to upload file attachments and create a new field.  The Field must have a Type - which in this case would be 'file attachment'.  You can then set other characteristics about the Field to control how many files can be visible to Users in the field at any one time (1, 3 or unlimited revisions).

If you do not have Administrative permissions to make application changes, contact your Application Manager or Owner for support.

With script you can modify the standard file attachment field's markup to select through the device's camera: by adding accept and capture attributes
<input type="file" size="40" name="_fid_6" id="_fid_6">
<input type="file" size="40" name="_fid_6" id="_fid_6" accept="image/*" capture="camera">
Once an image is selected you can also arrange to display the photo while proceeding to fill out the remainder of the form. This customization option is in addition to or substitution of whatever native mechanism is on a mobile device and it should also work from a desktop with installed cameras.

What is even more interesting is that using a Service Worker you can mod the QuickBase form builder to add this option to your File Attachment field. Maybe like this:

Notes

(1) In the script I removed the buttons that would save the record so you nobody junks up my application with cat photos.

(2)_Feel free to attempt to upload and preview your photo

(3) Yes it is possible to resize, rotate or otherwise edit the photo prior to submitting the form..
