knowing the user and date a checkbox was checked

Is there any historical meta-data I'd be able to display on who last checked (i.e. modified) a field and when (i.e. modified date) they did so?

I know there are go-forward solutions like automations and form rules, but I'm wondering if "history" exists in long-established fields...
