Way to trick QB to show RIch Text Buttons more cleanly?

I make custom rich text buttons so i have more control over the shape and look. It's great, but when I place them next to report links, it creates a large amount of 'gray space' (see below). Is there any trick to getting rid of this? All I can think of is having the button on a different line than the report link...

This only happens in view mode, not edit mode. Though I'm not sure how to use that fact to my advantage....
