Question

Zapier of Mailchimp to Activies Table

I have created a ZAPIER connection between Mailchimp and my ACTIVITY TABLE. This is set up so when an email is sent to a contact in Mailchimp, it will create an Activity in the table. The only part I am having trouble with is that it is not pulling over the CONTACT name to connect the CONTACT to the Activity.

What's the CONTACT field type in QB?

It's a text look up field

The issue may that the field you are mapping to is looking for the related CONTACT (based on numeric value), rather than the just the contact name (text).  You can test to see if this is the case by adding a text field (not a lookup) and seeing if you can map the contact to that field.  If it is a field that you cannot edit on a form, its likely you will have issues mapping directly to it using Zapier.  If you can confirm we can likely come up with some workarounds.

If I change it to a TEXT then will that field work with the other tables that the Contact is linked to?

No, I would not recommend changing an existing field.  You're right to question that.  I'm suggesting that you test with a new text field to make sure that your issue is with the field type.  Although I'm fairly confident it is, you can use the test text field to confirm.  Please do not change your existing field. Apologies if my suggestion was unclear

Is the app table set up so that there is a related contact and the name of the contact is brought in via a text lookup from a contacts table?  Is it also the case that the name of the contact in MailChimp is taken from a list of contacts in your MailChimp database?  If yes, do you sync that contact list with Quickbase?

Yes we have a Zap from QuickBase to our Mailchimp Contacts

Great.  Is it possible to bring the CONTACT record ID from Quickbase into the contacts list in MailChimp?  If yes, can you Zap the contact record ID from MailChimp to the related contact field instead of the CONTACT name?  I believe this is what you will need to do to sync the fields.

I was able to bring the Contact Record ID into Mailchimp and re-ran a test. The activity was created but it's still not adding the contact name or the related contact.

The contact record ID field is a Numeric (reference) in QuickBase. Should that be different?

Is it currently set up so that, when the activity is synced to Quickbase, the contact record id in MailChimp (brought in from Quickbase) is synced to the related Contact in Quickbase for that activity?

It doesn't appear that that when I am creating the action step in the Zap that it gives me that option in the Related Contact drop down list. I am not sure why that is?

Without looking into the MailChimp account it's difficult for me to say what the next step is.  If you'd like to talk offline I would be happy to take a look and offer some suggestions.

Not yet, but I think we are switching to Drip from Mailchimp so I put this on hold!
