An Integrator Who Leans Into The Curve

If there’s a constant in Jim’s world, it’s motion—whether he’s on a motorcycle carving through sharp turns or wiring together systems so data can flow freely. As a Data Analyst and Senior Developer at Harder Mechanical Contractors, Jim brings structure, efficiency, and a touch of precision to everything he builds. Since discovering Quickbase in 2017, he’s become a go-to problem solver—part developer, part architect, and always in sync with the data.

Finding Quickbase

Jim first encountered Quickbase in 2017 while helping Harder transition from spreadsheets and flat files to a cloud-based workflow system. “I first encountered Quickbase as part of solving workflow and data management challenges,” he recalls. “Harder had just begun the process of transitioning from spreadsheets and flat files over to a cloud initiative.”

That shift opened the door for Jim to do what he does best—create systems that work smarter.

When asked about his background, Jim laughs: “I’m a Jim of all trades.” He started in software QA—testing UI, UX, and performance—then moved into IT and automation before joining Harder Mechanical.

Now, he wears many hats: Data Analyst, Developer, and DevOps expert. His work centers on building and maintaining Quickbase applications for Safety, Human Resources, Subcontractor Management, and data syncs across platforms. Much of his time is spent integrating Quickbase with SQL Server, Workato, Pipelines, APIs, and custom automation via code pages.

Jim’s favorite thing to do in Quickbase is automating complex workflows and cleaning up data so different systems “talk” to each other seamlessly. It’s not just about efficiency—it’s about harmony between tools and teams.

He’s especially proud of designing scalable processes that keep business data accurate and accessible across multiple platforms. The results? Less manual work, better collaboration, and a single source of truth that teams can rely on.

At Harder, Quickbase has reshaped how work gets done. “It’s reduced manual effort, improved collaboration, increased transparency, implemented standards, and created a reliable single source of truth for processes that used to be fragmented or tribal in nature,” Jim explains.

That clarity has allowed Harder to focus on strategy and innovation rather than maintenance and cleanup.

Why the Qrew Matters

Jim became a Qrew Leader to share his experience, build community, and learn from others who solve similar challenges in new ways. “I joined to share my experience with others, help build community, and learn from other people how to solve problems with Quickbase.”

He especially values the in-person Qrew Meetups. “The connections—both the practical exchange of ideas and the friendships that come from talking shop face-to-face—make it worth it.” And for anyone considering joining, Jim adds: “You’ll walk away with new ideas, solutions to challenges, and a supportive network of Quickbase peers.”

Beyond the Keyboard

Jim's ride

When he’s not writing code or refining automation logic, Jim is most likely on two wheels. A lifelong motorcyclist, he rides nearly every weekend, year-round. “There’s nothing quite like winding roads with sharp turns,” he says. “There’s nothing quite like the focus it takes—both emotional and technical—to really enjoy those rides.”

His other passion is his native plant Zen garden, a tranquil space with a modern industrial vibe—though the serenity occasionally gets interrupted by raccoons trying to raid the fish pond. “They’re persistent,” he admits, “but so am I.”

Jim’s story is one of precision, patience, and perpetual motion—the same qualities that define his code and his rides. Whether he’s syncing data between platforms or helping a fellow builder troubleshoot, he embodies what the Qrew is all about: mastery without ego, curiosity without limits.

As Jim puts it: “You don’t just build with Quickbase—you learn to see how everything connects.”

Jim’s deep technical knowledge and collaborative spirit have made him a cornerstone of the Qrew community. Whether he’s explaining an API trick, optimizing a workflow, or chatting about the best motorcycle routes in his area, he brings curiosity and clarity to every interaction.

He also leads the Portland Qrew Monthly Meetup, where builders of all levels come together to share ideas, learn from each other, and talk shop in person. If you’re in the area—or just want to join the conversation—you can connect with Jim and the Portland Qrew here: community.quickbase.com/group/portland-or.

And of course, you’ll find Jim sharing insights and lending a hand on the Quickbase Community Forum under his handle JimHarrison.
