This has lots of benefits. It will provide a more modern and consistent product experience, prepare us for future support of international characters and accessibility, and speed up our delivery of new features in the long term. Read more about that here. Today, I'm excited to announce that the first major feature of the UI Refresh, our new table report, is officially ready to enter General Availability! With this GA launch, the toggle at the top of your table reports with switch from defaulting off, to defaulting on. Read on to learn about the specifics of this launch, a few feature highlights, and what we have planned next. The road to get here Our brand-new table report experience has been built from the ground up to provide a more modern and intuitive way for you to get insights from your data. And since table reports lie at the heart of so many Quickbase interactions we wanted to make sure we took the time to get things right. Development first began on the new table report nearly 2 years ago. We started our initial beta program in October of 2019 and invited over 1000 accounts to try things out before launching our first ever open beta program in June of 2020 at Empower. This added the "New style (beta)" toggle on all Quickbase table reports and allowed any user that was interested to try things out. Since we started this program we have gotten a ton of engagement. In that time, we've gotten around 500,000 clicks on the toggle to enable the new table report. Those clicks are spread across 145 thousand unique visitors in over 7,800 accounts. All of that equates to over 200,000 new table reports loaded every single day. All this activity has helped us make informed choices along the way based on feedback from our wonderful community. So, thank you to everyone who took a survey, participated in a usability session, or submitted feedback. You have been an invaluable part of this process. Here are a few of the exciting features you helped shape: Sleek new look, same great table report Leverage the full width of the page, now that dynamic filters have moved to the top of the report. We've also made some improvements in response to your feedback to improve readability. Use our new full-screen mode to maximize your screen real estate. Set the density of records for even more control over the appearance of your reports. Put your best foot forward using our more subtle, stylish color coding. Applications you build reflect on you, and we want you to look your best - capable, professional, and definitely not boring. If you need something a little stronger, feel free to switch to our full-color option to really grab your users' attention. Enable it in the report builder. Get work done faster Clean up clutter with nested record grouping. When you group a new table report on several fields, each level of grouping will be nested within the group above it. You can even collapse all groups at once to find what you need right away. Do you work with reports that include many pages of data? Now you can switch between pages quickly, using page controls that are always visible at the bottom. Download your report as a spreadsheet in one click, now that we’ve pulled the download option out of the more menu. Boost adoption of your apps Your colleagues will get comfortable with your apps more quickly, now that they can quickly adjust their display by re-sizing columns. And no worries, we'll remember your choices the next time you visit the same report so you don't have to adjust them a second time. One of the most powerful interactions Quickbase offers is the ability to quickly and easily filter your data to find what's important to you. The new table report offers two different filtering options to provide faster insights. First, our column filters offer maximum flexibility so users can filter on any column as they would in a spreadsheet. At the same time, our filter bar displays the same dynamic filters builders have hand-selected on legacy reports to provide more workflow-driven focus. Rollout Details: Now, let's get into the logistics. With our GA launch, the toggle at the top of your table reports with switch from defaulting off, to defaulting on as I mentioned above. This means the new style will become the default experience, but the toggle will still be around in case you need to make exceptions to toggle back to the old style. We'll also remember that choice, so the next time you view that same report it will remain in the style you left it in. Since this is such a big change and the first of its kind, we're planning to roll this out in phases. These phases will be based on the first letter of your Quickbase URL (“https://examplecorp.quickbase.com“ would start with the letter “e”.) The first phase will begin on 04/26/21 where we'll default on the first ~25% of our accounts. Then, we have a week built in to monitor performance before resuming with our second phase on May 10th. After that we'll default on another 25% of accounts each week until we complete our rollout. We'll closely monitor each phase of the rollout, and may adjust the dates for the following phases as needed. We’ll keep this page up-to-date if any of the rollout dates change. Here's a more detailed outline of those phases: Phase Date Segments Phase 1 04/26/21 Customers with URLs beginning with a – d No additional phase 05/03/21 Monitoring performance Phase 2 05/10/21 Customers with URLs beginning with e – m Phase 3 05/17/21 Customers with URLs beginning with n – s Phase 4 05/24/21 Customers with URLs beginning with t – z and all others (accounts who don't start with a letter of the alphabet) In my example above, a company with the Quickbase URL “https://examplecorp.quickbase.com“ would see their table reports begin defaulting to the new style on 05/10/21 because their URL begins with the letter “e“. This GA rollout also marks the next milestone for a few features we are retiring this year. Read more about that here. If you have any questions or concerns on this feel free to submit a support case and we'll get you sorted out. What's Next: This GA milestone doesn't mean we'll stop working on the new table report. Far from it. After our GA rollout, we'll be paying close attention to bugs that are reported and feedback we receive about what's not working well so we can quickly resolve issues that may arise. We'll also take time to tie up a few loose ends like adding in features like "new subscription" and "add to favorites" that are important, but less-used functionality. And last, but not least, we also have a number of net-new enhancements we're also planning to add in like the ability to display totals and averages right in line in our collapsible grouping rows. Thinking ahead much later, once we're satisfied the new table report is full-featured and complete and we've given everyone plenty of warning, we will remove the toggle and the new table report will just become the table report. We anticipate this won't happen until months in the future. I mention it here purely to illustrate our eventual goal. Giving Feedback As I said before, your feedback is a critical part of our process. Whether you love it, or you’ve found something we’ve missed, it’s all essential to help us make the best table reports possible. Please continue to post your ideas on our Uservoice feedback forum, and vote for other ideas you like. Re: New Style Filtering? Hi Crystal, The scroll bar disappearing after clearing a filter in the new table report was a bug that has since been resolved. If you'd like to filter by more than the 5 fields that appear in dynamic filters, I'd recommend giving column filters a try in the new table report. Click the filter icon to activate them, then a new row of filters will appear below your column headings. Here, you can filter on virtually any field here and you can collapse it when you're not using it. Thanks, -Alice ------------------------------ Alice Hinshaw ------------------------------ Re: Open beta has begun for new table reportsHi Jonathan! This is an intentional change. Passing data this way through the URL is a security risk, so we will not be implementing this in the new style. We have however given you another way to accomplish the same workflow in the new style! After you make a change to your report you'd like to share, enter the more menu and select > "Copy Link." This will copy a link with your changes included that you can send to another user who will be able to see the report just as you're seeing it but without passing the query data directly in the URL.Re: Open beta has begun for new table reports Hi Marissa! Thanks for commenting! My name is Alice Hinshaw and I'm the Product Manager working on the New Table Report. Favorites is not being retired on the new table report, it's something we just haven't yet built into the new style. We are focusing our efforts on building the highest value features first and while there are lots of different inputs that go into prioritizing these items, one of them is feedback submitted through our user feedback platform, UserVoice. I would encourage you to add this request so others can vote on it to show their support. Here is a link. Re: Open beta has begun for new table reports Hi Jonathan! Thanks for sharing your thoughts here! My name is Alice Hinshaw and I'm the Product Manager working on the New Table Report. While we don't plan to support the All-Star Action Menu due to javascript injection concerns as Evan mentioned, I have some good news on your other points. Drag to rearrange columns This is not something we are intentionally deprecating in the new table report, just something that has been lower priority to add in since there are other viable ways to accomplish the same thing and we've been focusing our efforts building the highest value features and items there is no other way to accomplish first. While there are lots of different inputs that go into prioritizing these items, one of them is feedback submitted through our user feedback platform, UserVoice. I would encourage you to add your support to this post requesting the same thing. Two clicks to filter With the last release we introduced a feature where we persist, or remember, if you left the filters section open or closed on each report you visit. If you leave it open, you can save yourself that first click next time you visit the report. Clear all filters We're currently working on adding in this functionality. Keep an eye out for updates in our future releases! Re: Dynamic filters vs column filters in the Quick Base grocery store Hi Hector! Since this post, we've made great strides in this area in our new table report. You can read more details on those improvements here: Rollout Plan January 3rd Update March 12th Update April 17th Update And if you're interested in taking a closer look, sign up to join the Early Access program here and select Using Apps under Early Access Categories. We'd be happy to have you! April – New Table Report Update Hello again, New Table Report users! I'm back with my monthly update to let you know what goodies you can look forward to on Sunday. One disclaimer before I dive in. To reiterate, this feature is still in an Early Access (aka Beta) phase which means it is still actively being developed. Part of what is exciting about being involved in an EA program like this is that you have the opportunity to give feedback on a feature that is not yet fully baked and can have an impact on its development. The flip side of that is that you should come into the experience expecting to find a few bugs and features we haven't yet built out. This is expected and OK! Onto the update: Horizontal Scroll Fix First up, we have fixed an issue where users were unable to scroll L to R anywhere but at the bottom of reports. Many of you informed us of this issue, so thank you for that feedback! With this fix we have also made a change to the way scrolling works on table reports. Now, only the actual report area will scroll rather than the current behavior where the entire screen area scrolls. This also has the added benefit of solving another problem inadvertently. Previously there was some jumpy behavior with column headers when scrolling down the page. This is no longer an issue as the headers now stay fixed in place. We recognize this will be a change that will take some getting used to and to make this switch easier, there are a few tools I'd like to highlight: Full-screen mode While full-screen mode was available in the more menu before, we've brought this out onto the table bar to make it more easily accessible. Note: The full-screen mode option will not be available on table homepages until our May release. Until then it will only be available on standalone reports. Density controls Not a new feature, but still an incredibly useful one! On the right hand side of your report you can adjust your display density if you'd like to see more or fewer records on the page. Feedback As always, we want to know what you think. Successful early access programs rely on your feedback, so please don't hesitate to submit feedback early and often by logging into the QB Early Access app and pressing the "Add Feedback" button next to the New Table Report EA program. Next up: Table bar/more menu choices displayed on standalone reports and table homepages are the same Essential, Daily Use Functionality This past month we've also continued our focus on adding in functionality users rely on every day in the current table report experience. This release we'll be including: Delete these records (formerly known as "Delete all records in this report") Find/Replace in this report (formerly Search & Replace in this report…) Column Properties – set alignment and override column headings Displaying report descriptions This is an area we'll continue to focus on in future releases, so stay tuned for more updates here. Next up: report density and chosen column widths persist between sessions Visual Design Enhancements A big part of our goals for the overall UI Refresh project we're embarking on is to, of course, modernize the look and feel of our UI. You may have noticed in my above screenshots, that this month we've included a couple of key updates: To save unnecessary space and modernize our look we'll be displaying icons + tooltips instead of both text and icons on the table bar From L to R: Grid edit, Download Report, Full Screen, More Menu, Customize Report/Page Where we previously had an icon next to your density controls to enable column filters, we've moved this next to the search box to be more intuitive and discoverable. Click it once to enable filters and twice to close them Miscellaneous Summary Date/Time fields will now be available in column filters We've resolved an issue with the display of Formula - Rich Text fields so these should now display as expected As always, we appreciate and rely on your feedback to inform our product decisions moving forward. Don't forget to submit your feedback here by pressing the "Add Feedback" button next to the New Table Report EA program. Also, something new I'm trying this month, if you'd like to schedule time with me to chat about the new table report, feel free to use this link to grab a half hour directly on my calendar here. If you're interested in participating in our early access program for the new table report, but are not yet involved, please make sure you have registered based on the instructions in our monthly release notes. We are inviting more and more participants every day. If you are exceptionally passionate about working with us on this topic and being part of the cutting edge in Quick Base and have not yet received an invite to the program, please reach out to your account team at Quick Base so that they get in touch with the right people on our product team to advocate for you. ------------------------------ Alice Hinshaw - Quick Base Product Manager ------------------------------March Table Report Update First, I want to start off by saying thank you to everyone currently participating in the New Table Report Early Access Program and in particular, thank you to those of you who have submitted feedback or taken our survey. You all have had a ton of awesome feedback for us and I want you to know we've taken it to heart. This month we're rolling out a bunch of exciting enhancements based in large part on feedback from our EA participants! Here are the highlights: New pagination controls We heard you loud and clear that it was difficult to move from page to page with pagination controls that scroll out of view at the top of the report. This month we're introducing new controls that will stick to the bottom of your window, so they'll always be there when you need them. Click on the < or > arrows to advance one page backward or forward, on the numbers themselves to move to a page that closely neighbors the current page, or type directly in the box to skip to a specific page. Table bar/more menu functions We heard from lots of folks that items in the table or more menu that weren't yet available were preventing them from using the new table report more broadly. With that in mind, we did some research to determine which features were most heavily used and have started down the path of building these out. This release we'll be including: Grid Edit Download Report (formerly known as Save as Spreadsheet) Email Print And a “coming soon” tag to other options we’ll be working on including in future releases. Color coding Speaking of critical functionality, many of you also requested we include color coding as it plays a big role in many of your workflows. This Sunday, we'll also be introducing a new color-coding design. The strong color will be displayed in a "chiclet" on the left-hand side of the row with the rest of the row displaying 10% opacity of the same color. Deciding on a new model for color coding was such an interesting challenge. I'm going to write a post just on that. Stay tuned! Column filtering enhancements Since our last community post in January, column filters have improved by leaps and bounds. Now, you can filter almost any field on the fly in the column heading, spreadsheet style. Depending on the type of data and number of options, you may be presented with a dropdown or a text box. New in this release, multi-select fields will now offer a dropdown when the number of options present in the field is < 100. Making decisions about how to build a particular feature in Quick Base is always a constant balancing act between giving the builder the power to customize the experience while still giving end users the flexibility and power to get the information they need. Column filters are a prime example of this. Currently we're giving power to the end user by allowing them to filter almost any column they have access to. That said, we are keeping an ear out to understand how many folks would like an extra control to limit filter options. Bug fixes and performance improvements Along with all of the flashy, exciting improvements mentioned above, we've also continued, as always, fixing bugs as we go and improving performance of the report. In this release, we've fixed a sorting issue affecting long, grouped reports and improved performance when the report is grouped on a user field. Next up, we will be addressing the horizontal scroll issue a number of you mentioned in your feedback. Our developers are working on a fix for this as I'm writing this now, so we should have this resolved by the April release. ------------------------------ Alice Hinshaw - Quick Base Product Manager ------------------------------Re: Turbocharge your processes with Quickbase barcode scanning Hi Roy, thanks for the feedback. This is an issue we've had reported by very few customers so far. Would you mind submitting a support case so we can have this properly logged in our system? That will ensure our internal tracking is kept up-to-date with the number of customers who have encountered this issue and the specific nature of the problem. This also has the added bonus that you will be notified automatically when the issue is resolved. If you could also include a few images of the barcodes you're trying to scan, it would be very helpful for our team! Thanks, -Alice Re: Android Galaxy and Map Report in Full Browser Hover box issues Hey Ruby! I see this is a few days old, so you may have already done this, but I would recommend submitting a support case so our mobile team can take a look into this issue. If you're using the full site on mobile I assume you're working around some other limitations of the mobile app, which I understand. There are definitely aspects to both experiences that are valuable. In this instance, as a work around in the meantime, I might suggest if your users have the QB app downloaded they could simply press the "Open in the Quick Base app" banner at the top of the screen to view the report through the app. The addresses are readable there and then they can hop back to the browser to continue with their normal workflow. Thanks! ------------------------------ Alice Hinshaw ------------------------------
