Many organizations are finding that the need for innovative processes and automated work is continuously growing while even the most flexible tools are no longer fast enough when they don't work together. At the same time businesses are struggling more than ever to find resources to help them develop the custom integrations and automations they're missing.

With our brand-new Pipelines technology, Quick Base is introducing capabilities that empower builders of all backgrounds to automate work across integrated systems.

In case you didn't have a chance to join us, you can still get a great introduction to Pipelines by watching the recording here!  This thread is dedicated to questions that we didn't get a chance to cover during the webinar. Post your questions here and our Pipelines team will do the best to answer your questions. We want to know what you are curious about and cannot wait to bring Pipelines to you.

  • Is the Q1 release an Early Access date or a Production release date?

Will there be a way to use pipelines without the visual UI (i.e. view/edit as a schema)?
Will Pipelines be accessible from the QuickBase API?
Will Pipelines be able to trigger API calls, or be triggered from other QuickBase non-table related triggers (i.e. App CRUD, Pages CRUD, users, user groups)?

    Will there be conditional branching?

Thanks for joining us, Sam! The Pipelines is already in Early Access. In case you want to sign up please submit your request at https://www.quickbase.com/earlyaccess . We do plan to deliver the product as generally available (GA) in Q1

      As for the other questions
      • There is going to be no way to modify your pipelines without the visual UI. That said, you will have the capability to export the YAML description of the pipeline and modify it in the developer IDE.
      • Pipelines will not be accessible via API in the near feature. I would love to learn about the use cases where you might need that capability.
      • Absolutely! Our generic webhook channel will allow you to trigger your pipelines externally as well as will give you the capability to make calls to external systems using their APIs.

  • Can we write our own custom API calls within a pipeline? IE - integrations that aren't included by default within pipelines.

Can we trigger a pipeline with an API call? So we call a specific endpoint that corresponds to a pipeline and we provide data as input parameters that can be used within the pipeline?

Hi Austin, that's a great question!  You can absolutely do that, our "Webhooks" channel allows you to make a call to an external API call, and can also be used for inbound API requests that you'd like to use to trigger a Pipeline.

  • Hi Evan,

Just finished the webinar and really excited for pipelines! Just curious what integration to O365 will look like and if this will replace the need for add ons like SendToQuickbase?

Thanks for joining the webinar, Michael! We do plan to have support for some O365 products. In particular, we plan to deliver integration channels with Sharepoint and OneDrive in the next 3-5 weeks, and Outlook as a fast follow.

  • Is there a way to connect to an arbitrary REST API endpoint, such as one exposed by my company for use by our customers and integration partners?  This would be something that you would not have a connector for.

Hi Jim, that's a great question!  You can absolutely use Pipelines to connect with REST API endpoints beyond our pre-built integration channels, including the one your company exposes for customers and integration partners.  Our "Webhooks" channel allows you to not only make a call to that endpoint, but also to consume and utilize the API response.

Hi Vince, that's a great question!  Yes we do have a "Webhooks" channel that allows you to not only make a call to an external API endpoint, and also to consume and utilize the API response.

  • By which security protocol are the calls transferred and is anything stored in pipelines servers? Will Pipelines be appropriate for transferring sensitive or PII data from one encrypted system to another?

Great questions, Rachel! As I mentioned in the webinar our new Pipelines technology is completely compliant with all security standards we have. All the data stored in Pipelines infrastructure is encrypted both in transit and at rest, with the industry-leading encryption methods.

  • Does Pipelines support...
    • Conditional steps. I.e. a condition is true, do this; if not, do that.
    • Can functions be applied to data fields? That is, instead of inputting the current date/time into a data field, instead add 2 hours to current time and input that.
    Thanks

Hi Rachel, thanks for your question!  I'm excited to say that we do plan to have our Zendesk integration channel available by the time Pipelines launches.  As always our roadmap is subject to change, however we are planning to continuously build and add new integration channels throughout 2020 and beyond.

You can also check this page anytime you'd like to see the list of currently available and supported integration channels.

    • Will we need to rebuild and move automations into the pipelines?

Thank you for the question, Jessica! As I mentioned in the webinar, there is no immediate impact to your Automations. We are going to continue supporting the Automation capability for the near future. We'll be communicating well in advance of any changes to our existing Quick Base features.

That said, as I mentioned in the call, we are going to focus a big part of our investment in automation and integration space on Pipelines, where you'll benefit from the latest and most powerful capabilities that we are developing.

Ditto to what Jessica is asking. I have one Application that I have 100 Automations, plus Actions in. Will these still be kept?

Also, are we able to connect to SAP?

Great question about the SAP, Laura! We are actively working with SAP to establish a relationship and build integration channels. Stay tuned.
