Many organizations are finding that the need for innovative processes and automated work is continuously growing while even the most flexible tools are no longer fast enough when they don't work together. At the same time businesses are struggling more than ever to find resources to help them develop the custom integrations and automations they're missing.

With our brand-new Pipelines technology, Quick Base is introducing capabilities that empower builders of all backgrounds to automate work across integrated systems.

In case you didn't have a chance to join us, you can still get a great introduction to Pipelines by watching the recording here!  This thread is dedicated to questions that we didn't get a chance to cover during the webinar. Post your questions here and our Pipelines team will do the best to answer your questions. We want to know what you are curious about and cannot wait to bring Pipelines to you.

  • Will there be a way to get "old" values, like you currently can in webhooks and automations? (for logging the old and new values when a field is updated, for example)

Will there be a Snowflake channel available in Q1?  If not, is it on the roadmap?

  • Although you've made it clear that Automations are not going away, is there a general sense that Pipelines will eventually replace Automations?  When Automations were introduced, it was clear that Actions would not be going away, but certainly Automations seemed to be taking the place of Actions.  I quickly transitioned my Actions into Automations, as Automations were more intuitive and powerful for what I was trying to do. I'm curious if the general sense (or hope) is that with the increased capability of Pipelines, and that you can recreate Automations but add additional capabilities, do you foresee most people moving from Automations to Pipelines to implement the trigger/action workflow?
  • 1. Will Pipelines enable adding a new record to Quickbase to create a corresponding new record in Quickbooks in real time and vice versa?
    2. In the demonstration I only saw new records being created.  Does Pipelines have the ability to edit and delete records in Quickbase and corresponding systems?
    3. I read in the thread that Automations "will be supported in the near future".  Does Pipelines replace Automations and, if so, will the automations we've created be ported to Pipelines automatically and without requiring changes?

    Thank you.

I'm not a Quick Base staffer but I've been on a few calls and my impression is that when it comes to as competition for Product Development resources between Webhooks, Actions,  Automations, and Cloud Pipes, the latter is getting 100% of the relative development effort at this time.

Quick Base has a pretty good track record of not breaking existing functionality, so if they did decide to retire and of Webhooks, Actions or Automations, they would need to find a way to do that without hurting the existing functionality that we all used in good faith with the respective tools that were available at the time.  So I think right now they are focused on making Cloud Pipes amazing, then the later they will get around to even a decision of what the future is for the older tools, and then how to implement that decision in a way that won't hurt users.

  • Are pipelines triggered by webhooks?

Also, is it foreseeable that we'll be able to trigger a Pipeline from a Formula/URL button within Quickbase?  What comes to mind is a button fires off a Pipeline, and the user is shown a pop-up form (like a jQuery Dialog) with loading animation (and perhaps custom text).. when the Pipeline is finished, the pop-up displays a confirmation, and the user's page reloads.

^This would allow us to migrate much of what we do with custom Javascript into native Quickbase, which is our end-goal.

You can certainly trigger with a formula URL button by just having the button toggle a checkbox field.  As for a dialogue box, well that may be your real question.

Let me ask it a different way for Rhett...

        (1) Today an Automation is triggered by a QB created/stored/somewhat-hidden Webhook that packages up every field in the record (whether needed or not for the Actions) and ships it off to the Automation engine for processing.   Are Pipelines essentially using the same methodology?  or is it a tighter integration?

        (2) And Mark, I'm with you... I believe Rhett is really wanting to know if a Dialogue box could kick off a Pipeline and then perform an Action after the Pipeline is finished running.... providing a path away from Javascript / IOL solutions.  High level use case:
         a.  User clicks on Pipeline trigger button (new field type?)
         b.  QB App presents dialogue box with progress bar / spinning wheel / etc
         c.  App triggers appropriate endpoint Pipeline configured in the QB PIpeline trigger field
         d.  Pipeline Success = dialogue box shows "Success" and then performs an action (refresh page / redirect / etc)... possibly configurable returned data payload so it can be utilized in the Action
         e.  Alternately, Pipeline Failure... display the error to the end user

  • Pipelines is super exciting and I think a game changer in making multiple tools into one to make management easier.
I can't wait to get access to try this out and see all of the amazing things we can do. Jealous of all the members in here that are already on early access.

  • I'm excited to see the new capabilities!

Will the webhooks channel support using variables in message headers? We need header-based authentication with rolling auth keys in order to integrate with some of our key systems, which has prevented us from using the current built-in webhook functionality much.

  • Hello:
We use Aptean Intuitive ERP and we would like to be able to pull data from our ERP system directly into a table in QuickBase. Will there be an ODBC connection released in Pipelines? If so, do you have an anticipated date?
    Thanks

The link here has the current channels which will be supported at the official GA (General Availability) launch date.
      https://pipelines.quickbase.com/channels

My understanding is that they plan to enable that second button soon so we can all see the next wave of channels which are in development.  (Right now it's blank, but in fact they are hard at work on the next wave of channels, just not published to that website yet).

I'm not a Quick Base staffer so I don't have specific information on an OBDC connection timeline, but I can say that they realize that this would be highly desirable.

I was wondering that as well. If you fill in your contact info on that form, it will give you access to the recorded webinar (about 45 minutes in length). They should probably update that landing page to let us all know that.
