Address State Format

Based on some of my integrations I need the address to use the 2 digit abbreviation in order for my programs to all work together. I have changed the items listed to the abbreviations but now when I put in an address it does not select a state anymore. How do i change this to make it when i type in the address to search address it populates the abbreviation and not the full state name?
