Any rental companies out there using QB to track inventory?

We're an event planning firm trying to track our inventory going out to each event, and we're running into some trouble with getting QB to track our inventory based on a specific date (ex. if we have 10 qty. item X out on April 20 for Event A, then Event B on April 20 would only have available total qty. of item X minus amount taken for Event A.)

There must be another company dealing with the rental and return of items on specific dates... Anyone doing anything similar? I'd love to know how you do it.
  • Elena,

I have seen your other questions on related scheduling and inventory issues and yes this can be done in QuickBase. Some of it can even be done with native QuickBase although the formulas get a little mathematical and involve compound criteria. However, beyond just getting the raw information as a report it is often much more helpful to visualize the resources and schedule using a chart.

QuickBase uses HighCharts for generating its charts and in addition to native charting you can create custom charts that show the start and end times for the allocation of various resources perhaps also superimposing inventory levels. This type of visualization allows a human to make a much better judgement of whether a particular resource is available at a particular time, or if all the resources needed for an event are available. In all cases the charts can be stunningly beautiful and summarize a lot of information that would be hidden in textual reports.

I invite you to visit the HighCharts demo page as if you see anything remotely similar to a chart that would display your resource and scheduling information it can be implemented and bound to your QuickBase data:
