Checkbox enabled formula

Is there a way to have a checkbox that if checked it writes the time stamp and user to a notes field? Also, I do not want to create a new notes field as I already have important information. The reason of doing is to log a call or an email sent.

    If you build a Form Rule, you can have it push a text value to your existing notes field which will capture the TimeStamp and User, if you have the 'Log Edits to this Field' option turned on for the Notes field.
