I have run into this Automation anomaly a with changes in field types after an Automation has been created.  My only work around was to create a NEW Automation and rebuild.   Create a new one and don't copy the existing one. 

I have also discovered that when copying Automations similar problems appear when you change Actions or Triggers in the copied version.
