Custom Role Permissions Question

Hello,

I was wondering is there a way in QuickBase to customize a role's permissions based on a specific user. For example, I have a role titled "Provider User". There are many users who are assigned to this role, but there is only one user (i.e., John Doe) who has this role but needs access to create new reports and such.

Is it possible to customize a role settings based on specific users?  Please let me know. Thanks in advance!

  • My suggestion is to make a Role called "Also allowed to Create Reports".   For simplicity, you can either make his a Viewer type Role with no edit capability, or for that matter make no access to view or edit.

But you would set that Role's setting to allow to create reports.

The idea is that this an Addition Role that you would put these special users into in Addition to their regular Role.

      Mark,

Thanks for your response. I was thinking of a similiar idea, but another question I had was is it possible for users to have multiple roles, such as John Doe having that Addition Role you suggested I create AND the "Provider User" role ?

If so, can you tell me how to do that. I've looked into it but it seems like users can only have one role.

  • In act users can be in multiple Roles.  Just invite the user to the app again in a new role.  The system will give the most access possible across all the roles.

Okay, got cha, that makes sense. Thanks so much for your help!

  • I have had success with multiple roles for table/field permissions but it gets weird when you try to use multiple roles for Dashboard and navigation pane management.  Then it's not based on combined access but which ever role is higher in the list.  I wish this was consistent across the board....
