Dynamic Embedded Tables

Good morning everyone,

I have 5 different companies under one umbrella and they share all assets except labor (union) depending upon the scope involved.  I have tried and not had any luck getting a different form to open for each company when working up an estimate.  With the idea, if you click on company A, then when you move into the labor section the estimator would only see the labor rates associated with the managing company.  Needles to say Quickbase seems to always want the same form for each table for initial entry.

Next choice in my mind was to change the embedded labor table so it would only display the labor rates that had the same [Managing Company] that the user enters in the initial Project Estimator.  I cant get it to work, I either get zero labor rates to pick from or all of the labor rates.

Order of tables

X Companies – 5 companies names inside

Project Estimator – has a multi-choice to pick one of the 5 companies from the X Companies

Cargo – Most data entry and estimating calculations are entered into the default form – No pick list for Managing Company in this table

Labor Rates and Types – 30 records with different trades, money and I added multi-choice text to pick from the 5 companies beside each of the rates.

Labor Rates Joined Table – Holds the records from past Estimates.

I need this last embedded table (Labor Rates and Types) to only show the labor rates that have the same managing company (entered in the very beginning of the Project Estimator form) as the labor records.

Is this the best solution for the problem?

Any ideas on what I might be doing wrong to get this to work?

  • The easiest solution is to duplicate your report link field so you have 5 copies.  Put the report link fields on your form 5 times,  and use a form rule as to which one to show.  Associate a different report for each one. The reports will filter only to include a certain company.

New approach I never thought about.  Thanks, I will work on that.  I like it and it makes perfect sense!
