field ??? is required error

Go to your field list in the table, and scroll down looking for those with a red asterisk against them. This means that the field is required in the table when adding records. Even if those fields are not on the form; or they are and you "uncheck" the required box in the form layout; the default setting aof the field will overwrite any changes you make on the form layout. Uncheck the required box in your field; and then try to save your record again.
I did just this, there were no fields that were still required, same error

I would look at your form and look for any fields on the form where they are required as part of the field properties. You may have a field that is required but it's perhaps hidden due to other form rules. The field itself may be unlabeled on the form and that may be the reason for the ??? To identify the field.
