Formula for Adding fields

Question

I have four numeric fields I need added together in a fifth field to calculate my shipping. I have tried using the field name [ship price 1] + [ship price2] + [ship price 3] + [freight] and I get a syntax error.

Are they numeric fields or are they text fields?
