Formula Text to User

Hi There

I have a formula-text field that currently displays an email address depending on which department is selected.

[Example: Department 'X' is selected, therefore displays [email protected]]

I would like to create a separate User field that auto links to the email address from that original text field.

Is there a way for me to do this?
