How do I safely Copy an Application and Data

I have no familarity yet with Quickbase.  We have been contracted to make some minor (but not trivial) changes to a quickbase application that is currently in use.

I would like to copy this application, with its data, to experiment on.

I see a feature under

Home=>Settings.=Advanced Features=>App Management

to copy the application (and data).  But I want to make sure this will be safe.  Like will the client be able to use the app during the copy process?  Do I need to worry about disk space quotas when I do this?  (I have no idea what sort of quotas exist or safeguarde associated with them).  Once I copy, will they be 100% independant.  i.e. changes made to 1 will not affect the other in any way?

  • App builders often make a copy of an app to test their proposed changes before re- implementing them in the live app.

    When you copy the app it will ask you if the users in their roles should be copied. If you say NO, then only you will have access and the others will still be listed, but in the role none.

    The original app will be unaffected by making a photo copy of the app. Its pretty y much the same as marking a photocopy. Just because you write with ink in the photo copy it will not affect the original.

    If you do copy users in their roles, which would be a very unusual thing to do if your purpose is to experiment with the app, then you have to make sure that you change the dashboard or do something dramatic on the main dashboard page so that users dont accidentally stumble into your copy app and think that their data is being updated in the live production app.

    It is highly unlikely that copying a single app would cause you to run out of space. The limits on space that you get with the Quick Base plans are very generous. for 95% of the Subscriptions.
