How to count # of records of a report link field

Hi,

I created a report link between two tables. Is there a way to also make my own summary field without having to have a relationship? I would like it to count how many related records show in the report link.

    Currently, the only way to get that kind of summary counties to have a relationship.  

    But if you attend the session coming up and empower we can find out how and when you would be able to do this without having a relationship.
