How to format a form field so it has to meet X format - specifically fax number with "1"

Hi, we have a field we need users to enter the fax number with the 1 in front of it. We can't use the QuickBase phone number format because we can't have the additional characters () etc in our API.

Other than adding instructional text (which our users so far are ignoring) - how do I prevent them from submitting/fixing an "error" before submitting by only entering 2345678900 instead of 12345678900 ?

Thanks!!!

  • You could go to the Advanced settings for the table and

Build custom data rules for this table:

Learn more about using custom data rules here

    Turn custom data rules on?
    and enable Custom Rules.

Then assuming that you have set the phone number field to to be a numeric field,

    var text Fax = ToText([Fax Number]);

IF(Trim($Fax<>"") and Left($Fax,1)<>"1", "Sorry but please Enter the Fax number with a leading 1, such as 12345678900")

That will block the save in forms mode or Grid Edit mode and display the error message.   It will allow a blank Fax#.

Thanks for your help with this! Is it ok if we have this field set to number? I keep getting an error message of "expecting text but found number". Is there a way around this?
      Thanks!
      Steph

I'm not understanding where you are seeing this error message.  Is it in the box where yo are entering the Custom data rule in Advanced Properties?

Today's clinical trials have a diversity problem - and lack of patient trust is the primary barrier.

Webinar: Racial Diversity in Clinical Trials: Building Trust in Participant Engagement

While racial and ethnic diversity in clinical trial participation has long been an issue, COVID-19 vaccine trials have brought this issue to national attention. How can the research community address the root causes for lack of diversity? What actions can be taken to build trust among socioeconomically, racially, and ethnically diverse populations and initiate change? What role do community healthcare centers play in establishing that trust?

Join us for a panel discussion of ways we can unlock the inherent trust between patients and community healthcare providers to encourage diverse representation in clinical trials. Experts from research organizations and community health centers will discuss ways biopharma and health centers can come together to improve equity in research.

       Learning Objectives:

      • Identify ways to overcome root causes of research inequity and increasing diverse enrollment in clinical trials

      • Discuss the role of health centers and how they may be the "missing link" in helping ensure new therapies are safe and effective for the entire US population
      • Analyze data that impacts negative perceptions regarding research participation and how it could influence decision making for initiatives that drive change
      • Describe actions that can be taken across the research ecosystem, including protocol design, trial modalities and use of technology, community engagement, and more
