Sorry, I'm not understanding the question.
- KellyBianchi7 years agoQrew Assistant CaptainWhen you 'Trim' a note to display the most recent entry, it displays a series of dashes above the message (as pictured above the word 'lot' in the image I sent). Is there anything that can be added to the this to remove the dashes? Trim(Right([Department Log],"]"))
- QuickBaseCoachD7 years agoQrew CaptainCan you post the text of a typical logging field, not just a screen shot. I can't work with just a tiny snippet of the whole picture.
- KellyBianchi7 years agoQrew Assistant CaptainI have a multiple choice drop-down for departments, but I don't want the log history to display in my report. So I created a formula field to mirror the current department selected. To do that, I had to use the formula I described above. Departments include: Office, Lot, Arbitration, Transportation, Online
I'm able to accomplish what I need functionally, but aesthetically, the dashed lines are just a visual annoyance. Does that give you a better understanding of what I'm trying to accomplish? Thanks, in advance, for your help. - QuickBaseCoachD7 years agoQrew CaptainSorry, but I cannot see you screen from here :)
Really this is a brand new question that you have tacked onto an old thread.
I'm happy to try to help but I suggest that you post a new question, and include an example of the actual the actual text that you want the TRIM type formula to deal with.
Please post a clear question and I will answer it. - KellyBianchi7 years agoQrew Assistant CaptainI guess I don't understand what isn't clear. The image shows the dashed lines that are caused by the 'log edits' feature. When you use the Trim formula, it truncates the message, but keeps the dashed lines. No big deal. I can live with it. Thanks for reaching out.
- QuickBaseCoachD7 years agoQrew CaptainYou asked for help with a formula that you posted. I understand exactly what that formula does. The formula includes a ] type bracket.
But you seem unwilling to post more than 1 tiny piece of the screen shot of a full example of your text. I assume, for example that your actual app does have an ] in that field. Your screen shot does not, so I assume that the screen shot was just a small piece of the whole picture of the actual text in that field. - KellyBianchi7 years agoQrew Assistant CaptainI'm not unwilling. That's really the whole story. I don't know why the bracket is in there. It's code that I've copied. The actual text in the field, like I said, comes from a drop-down that lists departments.
Office
Online
Transportation
Lot
But because lot was the most recent selection, I get:

Just wanted to know how to get rid of the:
----------- - QuickBaseCoachD7 years agoQrew CaptainDo you need the dashed lines to show even in the log field? If not, you can turn that off in the field properties. So you are saying that the field is not logging who did the change or when?
The formula would be
Right([My text field with logging enabled],"-")
- KellyBianchi7 years agoQrew Assistant CaptainI didn't see that in the field properties, but I do like it for the logs, and your solution worked perfectly! Thank you so much. It's a visual relief :)
- QuickBaseCoachD7 years agoQrew CaptainOK sorry for putting you though the ringer on this, but I never heard of anyone logging changes but not logging the who changed it and when changed, so that threw me.
