Import Only Existing Fields

I know that I can manually toggle to not import specific fields, but that is a lot of work.

Does anyone know of a way to only import data for existing fields without all of the manual manipulation?

I have a data source that exports to csv and I have no control over the fields that are exported. I am only interested in a handful of those fields. Once I import those into Quick Base, I only want those to import and I don't want to have to delete columns from the spreadsheet or deselect the fields during import.

I thought about just importing everything and only looking at the important fields via report, but I would prefer to not even import the unnecessary fields if possible.

  • Here is a great technique i have implemented for a client.  They have several CSV files to be imported daily and we want to dumb this down to be a clerical but error free function or perhaps even done by an Admin who is only half awake first thing in the morning.

Create a scratchpad table with the exact field names as the CSV file.
The user will have a button on an special Admin record to import to scratchpad.

Then there will be button to import from the scratchpad to the real table.  That allows you to control the field mapping and which fields get imported.

Then there will be a button to clear the scratch pad, and of course you give some though to the buttons so that you only show the correct buttons according to if there is data in  the scratchpad.
