Need help with Automation tool on editing new entries only

Hi QuickBase Community,

I'm not entirely sure how to describe this best, but I'll give it  a shot.

I have a field called "How did you hear about us?"

I also have a field called "CampaignID" in the same table. If the CampaignID field is blank, I want to do nothing at all. If the CampaignID matches a specific keyword, however, I want to override whatever is in the "How did you hear about us?" field and force it to use what I tell it to use (i.e. Facebook Ad).

I only want to do this with new entries, and never with existing data, (unless maybe a CampaignID is added manually, then it would be okay)

I can't seem to get this Automation to work.

Any suggestions?

  • I noticed if I switch to Record ID, and select 'equals Record ID' as the conditional (as opposed to contains "keyword"), it worked fine, so it appears to have something to do with the filed type, but this is a text field. I assumed that Automations would work with text fields, no?

In this case the text might be a CampaignID such as Tshirt-FacebookAd-101010, and the rule is 'contains Facebook.'

The weird thing is that the text seems to be treated as a single entity, as opposed to a combination of characters.

  • I would not mess around with Automations to solve this.

i would just make a new formula field which would use the raw data as it comes in and resolves the result by a formula.

      Hi Mark,

Thanks for your suggestion! I'll explore that as an option.
