I do not see that option to convert to rich text element, only a code button, assume not available
Next i created a url field, marked to display as a button, this only works some of the time, and not at all on legacy forms
Not sure I understand your second comment, I was suggesting to create a rich-text field and code your hyperlink field into that field. I was able to make this format work in the new forms

for the formula=rich text field I use(as you pointed out, thanks)

and it will not open to new tab, im thinking its a glitch
What browser are you using? Do you have any settings that would restrict popups? I put the same URL for google just to see,
When I click the link it opens in a new tab with now issue in both the new forms and legacy form. It also applies when I'm editing/viewing the form. I did notice that on the new forms, if you click the link when 'adding' a record, the behavior is such that it will save the record/then redirect in the same screen. Not sure if you are testing only for 'adding records' - but that seems to be a scenario glitch.
