Numeric Fields Show Separator After 4 Places

Curious to get other's thoughts.  We have not enabled the new Grid Reports in our primary application.  We have one application used by a small group that does have new Grid Reports enabled.

This application (with Grid Reports enabled) has summarized data from our primary application.  I was updating the data today and noticed the totals have the comma separator after 4 places.  So, 100000 is displayed as 10,0000.  When last updated, I'm pretty sure the comma separator was after 3 places.

I see in the field properties a select of Show separator after 4 places or Show separator after 3 places.  This appears to be a new option with the default of 4 places.  For all the numeric fields, I'll need to manually change to 3 places.

I could not find anything in the release notes about this option.  Has anyone seen anything related to this?  Is there any way to change the default to 3 places?  I have a feeling this is going to be overlooked quite a bit when adding new numeric fields.

My thought on the numeric field have you changed the separator checkbox?

  • ... feels like a bug to me.  You can report it via the ? icon at the top right of any page in your app.

  • Also, this attachment has the field properties.  The default is showing the separator after 4 places.  So, each field will have to be updated to change to 3 places.

  • I'm not looking to have 4 digit numbers display the comma.  I want the comma displayed after 3 places for numbers 10,000 and above.  See screenshot.  The second column has a total of 183,006 but is displayed as 18,3006 (based on the default show separator after 4 places of the field configuration).

Not sure what to say.  Maybe its a bug you need to report.  Can I see a screen shot of he field configuation settings?

I started the bug path, but then saw the field separator option.  That's when I started looking for something in release notes (which I couldn't find).  That's why I posted here - I wasn't sure if this was new or if I had just overlooked all this time :)

  • Quickbase defaults to have a numbers up to 9999 show with no comma and when you hit 10,000 it shows the comma.  If you want to force number like 9999 to show as 9,999 then you have to change that setting for every field.  I assume the reasoning for that behaviour is that it makes the reports a little less wide.

I also wish there were some kind of global realm or at least application level default setting for that, but there is not.  If you put in a user voice feedback, suggestion, and post a link back here I will vote for it.
