3 years agoIf you want fields to sort together alphabetically then use the naming convention that has a prefix to get them in the sequence that you want. You would never ever delete fields and re-create them just to get to them to appear in the correct sequence.
Click the field name column heading to get them to sort alpha.

I don't want to sort the field name alphabetically though.
Say I have created a table with fields in this order: date, customer name, state
I then want to add a new field called "customer ID" and this is the new order I want: date, customer ID, customer name, state
How do I insert the new field "customer ID" in between "date" and "customer name"?

You cannot do that and that concept is "foreign" to how Quickbase developers normally think. The fields can be listed in the order that you created them or alpha. Don't worry about the sequence. Just create the fields you need and get onto creating forms and reports and functionality of the app.
There are many apps out there with hundreds of fields. We just create the fields we need and get on with building functionality quickly. To find a field on the list we sort alpha and scan or use the filter box or reverse sort by field ID# (click twice) to get the newly created fields at the top.

When you start building your first basic "Table" Reports, you will see that you will select your fields, and their sequence (column sequence), the sort and grouping levels, and the filters. A Table Report is just a list of records. There are also many other report types like Charts and Summary report, but you can explore those later.
