Relate records based off of a multi select field

I have two tables. The parent table is "Checklist", and the child table is "Checklist Items". On "Checklist" I have a field called type that lists options such as: Checklist Type 1 Checklist Type ...

you probably need a many to many relationship, a join table that sits between checklist table and checklist items table.

    That's kind of what I was thinking. Bu I am unsure how to set up this third table.
