Select Multiple Users in a User Field

I have user field in a table that dictates permissions across other tables. After some personnel shakeups it'd be a lot easier if I could let that field have multiple users in it but I am not sure how...

There is a field type called List User.  It will let you select multiple users. I believe you can convert a user field to a list user field and the date it will be preserved. But you will then need to check where that field is used to make sure any formulas or look up's are fixed.
