I've been going crazy trying to pull the year from a date field in QuickBase
The formula I am using is Year([Date Field])
However I keep getting an error "expecting date but found number". Any idea why?

The year of today, for example is the number 2,020.
It looks like your year field is defined as being a formula date. It should be formula numeric.
