Transaction Log

I have a client that is asking for a transaction log for the workflow I am building out showing the username, action taken, and date-time stamp for all decisions and other changes made as the workflow progress. They would like this log to be reportable and able to be queried. My first thought is to create a separate table for this and have a pipeline set up to capture this info in the new table, but I am wondering if there are other ways to do this?
