Tricks to make an editable Report Link look nicer in edit mode?

RIght now, i have an editable report link that doesn't look very nice in edit mode. You can see in the photo below that the column heading is scrunched into 3 lines, and there is a big blank white spa...

I do not have this working yet, but I am working on Grahams example.
