What if you just have a form rule that simply changes the value of the field when the form is being edited as opposed to only on save.
So how would that work when someone clicks on a link to open the form? The field is set when they open it? That would be fine. How would I set that up in the new rule builder?
If you want the field set when the user opens the form, you could uncheck run change actions when a condition changes, and then the rule will apply immediately when the form is open. If you want the rule set without any particular trigger, you could do something like if Date Created is equal to the date and leave date blank.
