What is the ""Remove"" option in Report Filter Criteria?

I recently went into update an old report and noticed there was this "Remove" function in the Initial Filter criteria (see photo below in orange boxes). This is not a field anywhere in our app so I am assuming it is some sort of feature. Is this something new for building reports? If so, does anyone know the functionality?

    Could it be a custom-formula within the report itself.  Look above the filters section and see if there is a custom formula defined for the report; since you cannot find that "field" in the table itself.
