My problem is that, although the proxy field for the "Related activity" is one of the columns in the report I'm using, this column is not displayed in the embedded report on the Activities form. So I need to go to the Requests table, edit the request of which the record ID corresponds with the related request in the Activities table, select from the drop-down of the proxy field the activity with the record ID of the related activity, save the record, and only then the relationship is established. So I guess I'm overlooking something. In the attached screenshot, since QB knows that the related request has record ID 57, there must be a way to also know that the record ID of the related activity is 979. Or? Automatically establish 2-way relationship between records created by QB actionAdvisors use the Activities table to plan and keep track of their activities. Specialists can request an activity in the Requests table. I have setup a QuickBase action, when a specialists adds a request (in the Request table), it creates a record (Activity) in the Activities table. Now I would like specialists and advisors to be able to communicate with each other via the Remarks field, each in their respective table, and have the Request table lookup other data from the Activities table, like the status of the activity. So I have setup two relationships between these tables (1 in each way). In one way, from the Request to the Activity, the relation is automatically established by the action, i.e. I set the action for the record ID to become the related request, so the Remarks field in the Request table can already function as a lookup field in the Activities table. But now my problem is how to automatically achieve the same in the other direction. Since I don't need an Action in the other direction (the request and the related activity already exist, they're just not linked to each other yet), I don't know how to automatically have the record ID from the Activities table recognized as the Related Activity in the Request table.Re: Record owner of record created with QuickBase ActionsThank you for the replies!Record owner of record created with QuickBase ActionsI have setup an action using QuickBase actions, where adding a record in one table creates a record in another table. It appears that I (administrator) am the record owner in the other table of all records created by the action. (I would want the record owner of the original record also to be the owner of the by the action created record) Is this intended? Is this because I'm owner of the action? Am I overlooking something? Thanks, Mark :-)Re: Create list-user field of users who filled in the survey in a related table.Setting "Related activity" to be the key field is of course not possible, as this is not a unique value since multiple surveys relate to the same activity...Create list-user field of users who filled in the survey in a related table. From the Activities table a survey is sent to all users you enter in a list-user field. The surveys reside in a related table to allow multiple surveys per activity. In the survey list, clicking the "related activity" button takes me right to the activity, so this relation is working fine. In the activities table, I want to gather the information of who filled in the survey, i.e. the record owners of the surveys of the Related Activity. I thought of trying using "QuickBase actions", however when I setup the action, next to the Report link field, it's saying "For each changedsurvey, editactivitieswhere the value inRelated Surveyequals the value in the survey'sRecord ID#field." When I look in the details of an activity however, it's saying "No surveys found" for the Related Survey table, so the record ID field is blank. Is this because the key field in the Surveys table is the record ID? Should I set the "Related activity" field to be the key field? Any other tips on how to accomplish this (maybe I'm looking too far for the solution) are welcome. Thanks, Yo?lRe: How to recognize current user as reference field from a related tableWorks great. I just had to remove a bunch of placeholders in the users list (with one click), and in a related table one formula field (that made the specialist from user to text) I had to save the formula again to display the name instead of "invalid". Other than that, I didn't run into any changes. Thanks, Mark!Re: How to recognize current user as reference field from a related tableThe Specialist table already is the master table in 2 other relationships. From your experience, does QB manage change of a key field alright regarding these relationships? Here's QB's warning message: Changing the Key Field When a table is already used as the master table in one or more Relationships, the linkage between detail and master records is through the Key Field in the master table. Changing the Key Field without changes to the details tables would break these linkages. Quick Base will modify the details tables as follows, in order to maintain the correct linkages: A new reference field will be created in the details table. The value of this new reference field will be set in each record in the details table to the appropriate new key value from the master table in order to maintain the pre-existing linkage. If a lookup field to the new Key Field already exists in the details table, it will be converted to a non-lookup field and used as the new reference field. All fields in the existing Relationship will be migrated to use the new reference field. The new reference field will replace the old one on all forms in the details table. The old reference field will be converted to a lookup field. ThxHow to recognize current user as reference field from a related tableHi, I have a table containing specialists and their data (for example "1st language") In another table, these specialists can create records (requests). When a specialist creates a request, I would like to have her/him automatically recognized (as well as their data) in order to be able to use their data in another related table that centralizes requests (with requests from other users). To do so, I have related the specialists table to the specialists requests table, but I can't figure out how to automatically recognize the user. The "Specialist" field (reference proxy) is there as a drop-down, and when you select a name, their other data (like 1st language) is automatically recognized; but I would just like to avoid that the specialists have to select or type their own name in the "Specialist" field when they are the current user. However a form rule to set the Specialist field to be the current user doesn't work. Neither does when I try the same with the reference field (related specialist), it says there are no compatible fields when I want to change the reference field to the current user. Thanks, Yo?l
