We are happy to announce that our new grid reports are now available in open beta for all customers starting today, October 7. Read on to learn about how they can boost your team’s impact, and how you can try out the new experience now. Background At Quickbase, we never stop thinking about how we can better support your users. Because your team is the engine that helps your business grow and out-innovate your competition. And this has never been more urgent than it is today, when so many companies are being asked to do more with less. At the center of your everyday Quickbase experience is table reports. We understand that the need to quickly look up or review operational data is constant. And we have heard from many of you about the limitations of table reports, and the grid edit view that comes along with it. We heard about workers being slowed down, and the frustration many are feeling as they toggle back and forth between pages just to edit data. We heard that using grid edit in 2025 feels unintuitive. And we heard about performance slowdowns in some apps as well. That’s why we’re introducing grid reports. Available to all today as a beta feature, this marks a major milestone in the Quickbase experience, providing a more modern and intuitive way of viewing and entering data. Grid reports are the successor to both the table report and the grid edit features in Quickbase. It combines the familiarity and ease of a spreadsheet with the power of our operational platform. For example, with grid reports, all it takes to kick off a pipeline is double-clicking a cell, typing a new value, and hitting save – all done without leaving your report. We have turbocharged the performance of grid reports as well. Finally, for those who have been hesitant to make the jump to our newest drag-and-drop form building experience, I’m happy to say that grid reports are supported there as well – allowing quick edits of child records like you have on a legacy form. Don’t let them tell you that you have to choose between flexibility and power. Because with Quickbase, you really can enjoy the best of both worlds. Business insights, at your fingertips Control the height of your rows. And don’t worry, we’ll remember your choice. This setting impacts how the current report displays for you only. That way, each user can pick a different height as they please. App builders can also set a default height that best fits each report. Control the width of your columns. Like row heights, we will remember your choice and this setting only impacts how the current report displays for you. Filter data on-the-fly. And if you want to update the report for all users, click the … icon on the right side and save the report. Quicker edits, fewer clicks Edit data without leaving the report, simply by double-clicking. Once you’re done, hit Save. Fill down to update many records, in record time. Once you’re done, hit Save. On forms and dashboards too You can also add grid reports to your forms and dashboards, so your team can make quick edits without clicking away to another page. Using a legacy form or dashboard? You can create a new one, to take advantage of grid reports. (When making a new form or dashboard, it will use the latest version of each respective feature by default.) Try it out today Starting today, new apps you create will default to using grid reports. And app administrators can turn on grid reports for existing apps today as well. Open App Settings, then App Properties, and scroll down to find the new option under Advanced Settings. You can also give your app’s users the option to go back to the legacy table report if needed. If you set this to Yes, your users will be able to toggle between grid reports and the legacy table report which previously appeared with the “New experience” for table reports toggled off. What’s next for grid reports? We will be actively monitoring the impact of our new grid reports across the customer base and fixing any bugs as we find them. Stay tuned to our product release notes for details on when we will default all table reports to the new grid report experience. How are we doing? Have an idea for making grid reports better? We want to hear from you! Click the ? icon, then click Give feedback. Or you can open a support case to report a bug or get assistance. Creating new Quickbase Actions will be locked on Sep 30, 2025 Quickbase makes it easy to reduce repetitive tasks and orchestrate workflows, uniting disconnected data onto one platform. With Pipelines, business users can manage both automations and integrations in one place. And we have been hard at work enhancing our Pipelines capability based on your feedback. Now, as we continue to look toward the future, we must also evaluate the role of older and less flexible features like Quickbase Actions. Therefore, on September 30, 2025, it will no longer be possible to create new Quickbase Actions. What this change means for you After September 30, 2025, you will no longer be able to create new actions. However, existing actions you’ve created will continue to run. And you will be able to enable, disable, and edit those actions as needed. We previously communicated a plan to disable the editing of automations and actions, and to begin the retirement of Application Webhooks. Based on your feedback, we are not planning to make those changes at this time. We still do recommend that you migrate any remaining actions you’re using to pipelines instead, which enable more powerful and flexible workflows. If you are an app builder, you already have access to create pipelines. If you do not see the Pipelines link below, please contact your account administrator to get access. The Pipelines Advantage We have been continuously adding new capabilities and tools that make it easy for you to transition your workflow automations to our newer and more powerful Pipelines technology. Not only will this ensure that you don’t experience any disruption to your business or your processes, but it also opens the door to new workflow ideas that can connect across multiple systems. Pipelines supports all features available within Quickbase Actions – Pipelines supports all the features you’ve been leveraging within Quickbase Actions, including the ability to query the previous value of a field. Pipelines enables more sophisticated logic than Quickbase Actions – Pipelines supports more powerful business logic than Quickbase Actions – including branching and looping, as well as parsing text. Pipelines gives you the ability to scale workflow across systems – In addition to orchestrating workflow within your Quickbase ecosystem, Pipelines includes drag-and-drop integration with over 40 products including Outlook, Slack, and Sharepoint. That means faster, more informed decisions. Visualizing your data with charts supports that decision-making, telling the story of where you’re winning and where you need to focus your attention to stay on track. Historically, Quickbase has offered thirteen chart types, including bar, pie, and gauge. Generally available to all customers now, we’re adding 15 new types of charts to help you tell even better stories with your data, and show off the great work your team is doing. Heatmap A heatmap is an effective way to visualize patterns and trends across large data sets. It uses color intensity to represent value, making it easy to identify spikes, clusters, or outliers at a glance. For example, when tracking safety incidents across multiple sites, darker shades can quickly highlight areas that require attention, enabling faster and more informed decisions. Radial bar You can give your bar chart a circular twist. It’s a great way to compare values when you want a more visual impact. Let’s say you’re tracking task completion rates - each radial bar segment can represent a task category, making the whole chart look like a performance wheel that’s both functional and eye-catching. Variwide bar If you need to show both value and impact in a single view, you can use a variwide bar chart. It adjusts both the height and width of columns based on your data values. Imagine you're comparing change orders (height) by project and also want to emphasize the length of delay associated with each change order (width). Variwide bar charts help you capture both dimensions at once. Spline If you want to show trends with a smooth, flowing line, use a spline chart. Unlike a basic line chart, a spline adds curvature between data points, making it easier to spot gradual changes. For example, you might track labor hours used over time. A spline chart can help you visualize subtle dips and peaks across the year without harsh angles, helping stakeholders focus on overall movement. Area spline To show both trend and magnitude over time, use an area spline chart. It’s like a spline chart but with the area beneath the line filled in, giving more weight to the volume of data. Say you're tracking labor hours by category - an area spline can help you see how categories shift in volume while still emphasizing their overall trajectory. Streamgraph If you need to show how data flows over time across multiple categories, try a streamgraph. It’s perfect for visualizing stacked values with movement - like tracking how material costs shift across different categories over the course of a construction project, or how production output varies by assembly line throughout a manufacturing cycle. Donut Donuts show proportions just like pie charts, but with a open center for a modern look. For example, if you’re tracking revenue by region, a donut chart quickly reveals which region contributes the most. Bullet When comparing performance against a target, you can choose a bullet chart. It’s a clean, space-saving alternative to gauges or bar charts. For example, you could show actual sales next to your goal and a qualitative range - e.g. poor, average, or excellent performance. 3D charts Looking to add depth to your data? 3D charts provide a visually engaging way to present standard charts like bars, pies, and funnels. While the data stays the same, the added perspective can help you tell a more dynamic story. Available 3D charts include: 3D bar 3D stacked bar 3D area 3D pie 3D donut 3D funnel 3D scatter Re: New email notification beta has arrived Oh I'm sorry, I see what you're saying. While it is possible to include non-Quickbase users in the To field (like you would in Outlook), it's not currently possible to do so for the From field (and therefore, it's not possible to do so for the Reply To field either, since Reply To is automatically set to match the From field on the back end). I like your mailto solution as a workaround, but can you log this as product feedback as well? (Click the ? in the top-right corner when logged into Quickbase, then click Give feedback). Re: New email notification beta has arrived So the Reply-To field is changed automatically, when you change the From field. Have you tried replying to a custom email in this way? I just tried it out and it is working on my end. Re: New email notification beta has arrived Hi Hector, I'm happy to say that we've recently implemented this! Any app administrator, including the app manager, can now view app-level audit logs by going to App Settings > App management > Show audit logs. Re: New email notification beta has arrived Hi there, this is something you should be able to accomplish today. If you click on the From field when building a custom email, there are several options for who the sending email address is - like the owner of the email, or the user who triggered the change. See our help article for details. Introducing New Quickbase Navigation (beta) Update: This blog was initially published ahead of our open beta in May. On October 1st, new (or sidebar) navigation will become the default Quickbase experience. To help guide the transition, if your users tried new navigation during the open beta and reverted to legacy navigation, we will respect their current settings. Your team will still have the option to use to legacy (or top) navigation through the end of 2025, but doing so will require action from both admins and individual end users. Access the End User Guide for More Details > Quickbase is the world’s first platform for dynamic work management. And that means we wake up every day asking ourselves how we can make our customers more efficient and help them grow. We are continually improving the platform and adding new capabilities, so it is easier than ever for you to see, connect, and control your most complex processes. To do that, we want to make sure we continue to focus on providing an intuitive, clean user experience, which is the foundation on which the rest of Quickbase relies. That’s why we’re excited to announce the beta version of our new navigation. Here’s what to expect from our new navigation, and how you can try it out today. What’s changing? We rebuilt Quickbase’s navigation from the ground up to provide a more modern and intuitive experience for both you and your users. And, while we have future plans to add new functionality and concepts to our navigation, we’re not adding any new elements just yet. Instead, this initial release of our new navigation will re-arrange the components you use to navigate around your apps today. This approach will ease you and your users into this experience and make it easier to manage this change. Tables have moved to the left side Some may call it clunky; others call it dated, but we heard loud and clear from many of you that the Quickbase menus at the top of the page take up too much room. That’s why we’re moving app-level links to a new sidebar which you can find at the left edge of the page. Here, you can navigate to each table in your app. And if you are an app admin, you will find links to app settings and the user management page. We’re also providing centralized access to all your table settings with Settings for each table directly in the content menu are designed to save you time and clicks. It’s important to note that your existing table order and permissions will translate 1:1 from legacy navigation to the new style, so you’ll be able to hit the ground running without the need to re-calibrate your settings. With more room to breathe, you can see – and understand - more of your own data on your screen at once. There are several ways you can choose to interact with this menu, depending on how you like to get work done. You can open the sidebar by clicking the arrow to push content and maintain your open/closed state as you navigate across pages or simply hover anywhere over the closed sidebar to open temporarily and close automatically as you navigate. Switch between apps using the new global nav menu We’re cleaning up the experience of having to switch between apps with the app bar, by moving these controls to the top-left corner of the page. In this new waffle menu, you’ll be able to switch between apps. This is also where you will access other parts of Quickbase outside of apps, such as Pipelines and Exchange, enabling one-click access to key areas of the platform. Getting involved in the beta program Want to be one of the first to get your hands on the new nav? Your valuable feedback is pivotal to shaping our platform. Register here! Next steps The new navigation will be available for all users starting on May 8, 2024, with the ability to try it defaulted on. Each account admin can choose to disable the new navigation for their users under the Admin Console-> Permissions menu. If a user’s ability to turn the new navigation is not disabled, they can visit their user preferences and select sidebar navigation to try out the new experience. Happy navigating! Knowing how important that visibility is when our admins think about managing their workflows, we are excited to announce three new ways we are enhancing our audit log capabilities. First, we are adding new types of events around pipelines. Next, we are adding a new Admin Console sync channel for audit logs. And finally, we are adding a new app-specific version of audit logs which app builders can access from their app settings. Together, these new capabilities give your team better visibility into how your Quickbase account is being used. Audit logs: What are they good for? At its heart, Quickbase is an operations platform. And thousands of companies rely on Quickbase every day to manage unique processes that involve sensitive, business-critical data. To properly control these processes, you can reference our detailed audit logs. These logs include many different types of events, such as: Data access and changes, like when a dashboard is viewed or a record is updated Schema changes, like when a new table is added or a relationship is deleted User events, like when a user is invited to an app or their role in an app changes To see a complete list of events available, please see our Audit Logs Library. Using audit logs, you can ensure adherence to your organization’s security standards and compliance policies. Over the past few quarters, we have also made many additions to Audit Logs like: New events added: app builders visiting key settings pages, as well as solution and super user activities Added resource links (for records, reports, etc.) to event descriptions User access change events expanded to show details on what changed Addition of the Session Information column to distinguish simultaneous user sessions New audit events Does your organization use pipelines? If you’re like most Quickbase customers, some of your workflows are enriched by using Quickbase apps and pipelines together. You could previously audit schema changes to your apps but now you can do the same for pipelines. To accomplish this, we’ve added the following events in audit logs: Pipeline created, updated, or deleted Pipeline manually enabled or disabled Pipeline automatically disabled due to editing Prompt sent to Pipelines Smart Builder With this update, pipelines has become fully integrated into the core Quickbase experience. These updates make it easier for an account or realm admin to ensure compliance with your organization’s security and data governance policies. Audit Logs connected table Available to those on the Business and Enterprise plans, the Admin Console connected tables give you access to administrative data such as users and apps. We also have a trio of Governance Core App templates you can use with these connected tables to create an effective governance framework that’s proactive and customizable. This is a great way for your account admins to save time and reduce surprises. Simply visit the exchange and search for GCA Instructions to check it out! We’re adding a new type of Admin Console connected table, for your Audit Logs. This includes event data like app schema changes and user management activities. User-level and record-level actions are not included. Please review our Audit Logs Library for more information. Want to know when a relationship or a form has been updated? With the new Audit Logs connected table, you could set up an email to go out whenever this happens. That way, you can investigate and follow up with the user directly. App-level audit access Audit logs are often used by account admins for compliance reasons. But many of you have told us that app admins also need this data sometimes, to assist their app’s users and troubleshoot when something unexpected happens. To do this today, an app builder would need to contact their account admin asking for specific information from the audit logs. This can be a slow and tedious process. That’s why we’ve added an app-level version of audit logs. App admins can access this from app settings and see usage data for that specific app. We’ve also added additional filters to make it even easier to search. Finally, you can restore deleted records from app-level audit logs – quickly responding to mistakes one of your app’s users may make. Being able to access audit logs directly saves time and frustration, allowing you to confidently resolve issues with your app’s users on your own.
