Table to Table Import, removing duplicates

I have a table of orders. Each order has an address, and customer number.

There are multiple records in the table where the customer number and address are the same (the only difference is item description)

I wanted to do a table to table import, and remove duplicates.

Meaning I only want to import unique customer number and address. 


Is there a way to remove the duplicates and do a table to table import?

    If you create the new table with the Customer Number and Address fields

    then change the Customer Number to the Key Field before importing the records the key field will load the first customer record only. Hope this helps

    Hi Eric, I think the answer is going to be a little more complicated than this. I�m pretty sure that if you try to import data with duplicate data in the key field it will abort the import.

    Agreed, the import is aborted when you try to bring in the duplicate data. Thanks for any help you can provide on this

    You can make a new table where the Key field is the Customer Number.

    Then make a Summary report to group by Customer number and Customer name and then use the more button to copy these to a another table.

    The ones which already exists will just overwrite the existing ones with no change.

    If you then need to eliminate duplicates in some other table, you can make a relationship to this unique customer table and make a summary minimum of the [Record ID#] field.  Then look that up down to the details table and call it [Record ID# of the first record]

    Then the duplicates would be the once where the [Record ID#] is not equal to the [Record ID# of the first record] and the [Record ID# of the first record] is > 0.

    This helps tremendously. Is there a way to automate copying a report to another table?

    The issue is you can not make more than 6 rows on a summary report 

    So I have to it 2 or more times to transfer from one table to another 

    I wish there is a way

    It can easily be done with script. The only real issue is identifying the source report and target table. You can summarize the data as part of the script and again the only real issue is which fields to summarize and how. Scripts don't have limitations but hard coded features are nothing but limitations.

    I suggest that you make a new post and describe your issue as opposed to adding onto an other thread where it is not really explained what you need.
