Find Parent Record by Searching for field on Child

    Greetings,

I'm trying to figure out how to allow my users to find a parent record when they have the child records key value.

Parent is Product Data Sheet (PDS). Child is Product. Product has 3 fields, say, SKU (key), ProductId and Name. PDS has a key field ProductId. When a new PDS record is entered the products are automatically associated based on the ProductId fields.

What I like to do, is provide search widget on the home page whereby a user can enter a SKU (Product table key) to find the related PDS record.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Is it good enough to search for a hit on the child and then offer up a link to the Parent PDS?  if so just put in a search widget and do that.  The child records will have a link back to the parent PDS.

But If you want to have the users get there in one click, then roll up all the SKUs up to the Parent PDS with a Combined Text Summary field on the relationship.  Then set the search widget to search the PDS table against that field.

Thanks again, Mark. The Combined Text Summary field did the trick.
