Mark:
Thanks. I think I have it working, or at least a start at it. If I understand right, this puts an identical start and end date into every Activity record? From there, I can use another formula field to check if the Activity Date is on or between the End/Start dates and show a report filtered based on the result of that field.
If a user then wants a different date range, they would go into that single Focus Date Range record, change it, and then go look at the reports produced?
Thanks
Dave

- DavidHalter24 years agoQrew MemberAll right. I'm glad I followed that. So, that brings up two more questions in my mind, then:
1) can this process be streamlined in the same way that a report with "ask the user" is streamlined? Let's say the user clicks a link or button or menu item pointing to the report user wants, QB prompts the user to modify the Focus Date Range record, and then is presented with the report?
2) It seems like one drawback would be if two users are trying to modify the Focus Date Range nearly simultaneously. That is, if I put something in, then between the time I modify it and get my report, someone else modifies it too and I get a report different than expected. This would be a possible problem, right?
Thanks

When you made the relationship between the focus state range and the detail records, the relationship probably made a report link field for you.
put that report link field on the focus record and then put your summary report as the report to use for the report link field.
That way the instant the user saves the record with the adjusted date range they will immediately see on that very same record the embedded report of the results.
There is another technique which we could use for a different situation where on an ongoing basis users need to have a different focus dates, but it is really not necessary in this use case.
