One option is to make use of
Custom Data Rules, they allow you to set rules using the Quickbase formula language on a table that will prevent a save and pop up a warning. Then if you wanted a way to get around the warning you could add in a checkbox field next to the field you do not want to require that simply says N/A or something of your choice and if they check that checkbox then they are able to save with no value in the field.
