Add Import box to table

I am working on developing an estimating/proposal system to integrate with our current project management app that we have developed. Currently we receive estimates from several vendors and use an Excel sheet that we developed to aggragate those together into an estimate and proposal that we deliver to the client. Within Quickbase, we track this as an overall bid, and enter the total estimate amounts into the bid as well to start capturing the data as early as possible. I would like to develop a system where the estimators are able to either enter into a table layout on a sheet ( think table within a table) or copy and paste the same data if it fits into the correct format. This way the data is put in as early in the lifecycle of the project as possible, and can then be pulled within the table to make a proposal and mark it up accordingly. The import functions of Quickbase could work, but I am hoping to add a "table" field with in the estimating table to have it more end user friendly.

  • It sounds like you want to use Grid Edit and I believe that using Grid Edit in a Browser from Microsoft will be compatible with copy and paste from Excel (you would have to test that).

Have to tried data entry via Grid Edit?

I have tried using grid edit, but I was hoping that there was a better solution that avoids Internet Explorer ( same issue as grid edit pasting recapped multiple times on the forum) as well as required less clicking and was more user friendly.

It doesn't look like in all of my searches that another editable table exists in Quickbase?

I am not understanding what you envisioned for a different kind of editable table besides grid edit. What is wrong with Grid Edit for your purposes?

Is there a way to force a report to already be set to grid edit once you go to edit a record? Or have it be editable in with the rest of the form instead of pulling up an additional tab/page? We have some users that may be working on different records at the same time, and in our testing, grid edit has led to some data entry errors in trying to import line item details

I little confused by your terminology. If you're asking whether embedded table on a form can default to being editable In grid edit mode when the record is being edited, then yes you can do that.
Simply look for where the report link field is for the embedded table is in form properties and check the checkbox that says editable.
