you can install the multi file upload tool from Juiced which would allow you to upload the 600 images very quickly. But then you would probably have the opposite problem of labeling the images, unless the file name itself is the label.

The juiced tool can only multi upload to one record. If you have multiple records, and want to upload files and tell them to relate to multiple records, this cannot be done with the Juiced multi upload tool (unless it is a feature I am unaware of).
However, if anyone figures out how this can be done....let me know too!

Correct, but in Jeff's use case I think he needs to just figure out how to import 600 files. They do not have parents.
