I am not sure what you mean by the Apps not allowing you to save the automation. Also, I do not think that you need to use an automation to set the values inside of the parent. You can do this natively with table-to-table relationships. You can add a summary field of the maximum Record ID # of Activities table into the Leads table, and then you can add another table-to-table relationship with the Lead record being the child using that field. You can then bring any information in the last Activity record created up into Leads. That way any changes made inside of the Activity are automatically reflected inside of the Lead.
